Amateur Radio

Peter Clee was first licensed as an amateur operator in NSW in 1977 with the callsign VK2NUK. Since that time has also held the following callsigns VK2KZZ, VK6KZZ, P29KZZ, P29NUK, 3D2ZZ and VK8KZZ. His current callsign is VK8ZZ.

Peter was first exposed to radio when I was a volunteer radio operator for the NSW Rural Fire Brigade service in 1970. He was introduced to Amateur Radio by Keith Dodd VK2ZAA VK2RE (sk) and Ross Weedon VK2PN (sk) I will forever be grateful to these people who had a significant influence on my life.

Peter has studied a Batchelor of Business at the Northern Territory University and is currently studying a Batchelor of Information Technology at Charles Darwin University.

Peter was originally a member of the South West Amateur Radio Society (SWARS), WIA NSW Division, the Wagga Wagga ARC and the Albury Wodonga Twin Cities ARC. Peter was an active member of the Port Moresby ARC.

Peter has been active in many facets of the hobby from construction and modification, EME, aircraft enhancement, Satellite, HF, VHF and UHF over the years and is now learning about digital modes.

Peter Currently resides at Wagait Beach on the western side of Darwin Harbour where he has also been active in local government for 25 years and has held the position of council president or vice president for nearly 20 years. Current Grid locator is PH57in.

His current interests lay in repeater construction and linking, ROIP, International reciprocal licencing and a stable and productive WIA working for all Australian amateurs to ensure the longevity of the hobby and the long-term security of our bands.

Peter has been a director of the WIA since 2017 and has been Secretary of the WIA since 2018.

Peter was appointed as an ACMA accredited Amateur Radio Assessor in 2024.
